Course Description
Is your EFL classroom ACTIVE? Is MEANINGFUL COMMUNICATION taking place?
This seminar provides the theoretical bases for and practical application of using an COMMUNICATIVE approach in order to ENGAGE and MOTIVATE English learners at any level. Learn and implement NEW IDEAS for integrating SPEAKING, LISTENING, READING, and WRITING into lively lessons that are COMMUICATIVE, lively, and meaningful. Teachers will return home REFRESHED and EMPOWERED with a new enthusiasm for implementing CHANGE that will make language learning come ALIVE!
Conducted in an interactive workshop format, this seminar is intended for non-native teachers of English working in countries where English is not the native language. The seminar goals are to:
- expose EFL teachers to current methods and techniques for teaching EFL;
- engage participants in discussion and analysis of EFL teaching methods and techniques appropriate for their own particular teaching assignments;
- provide EFL teachers with a wealth of new ideas and resources for teaching;
- improve the English level and confidence of the participants.
Classes are conducted by highly experienced ESL/EFL specialists.
Seminar Features
- Welcome Reception and Orientation on first day
- Overview of current methodologies and innovative, practical techniques especially focusing on integrating speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for REAL communication
- Emphasis on COMMUNICATIVE language teaching
- Activities for integrating computers, media, music, games, and drama into the EFL classroom
- Language improvement—lots of practice with a variety of techniques
- OFF-CAMPUS educational activity with teaching focus
- Discussion sessions with local ESL teachers
- ESL/EFL Resource Fair
- Lesson planning and materials design; peer-teaching and feedback
- Certificate of participation from the University of Hawai'i issued on the last day to active participants at closing luncheon and ceremony
