Honolulu and the UHM campus are generally considered safe. However, international students and visitors sometimes encounter difficulties when they are not aware of the norms of a foreign culture or unfamiliar city. For this reason, our new student orientation program always includes valuable information about safety and tips for avoiding trouble while here, as well as what to do in case of emergency.

In case of illness, the University of Hawai‘i Student Health Services Center (http://www.hawaii.edu/shs/) is open to our international students during regular business hours. Students may also ask the program office for referrals to bilingual doctors in the community.
