Short-term NICE
(Winter NICE and Summer NICE)
ADMISSIONS ELIGIBILITY
- Short-term NICE welcomes applicants from all countries.
- Short-term NICE accepts students from beginning to advanced levels.
- Applicants to Short-term NICE sessions must be 16 years or older. Students under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult during their stay in Hawai‘i.
VISA INFORMATION
Because the Short-term NICE sessions are considered part-time programs, students coming only for these sessions may enter the US on a tourist visa (B2) or visa waiver (WT). The study program is considered "incidental" to the visit. Students who intend to continue studying in the US after completing the session should contact the NICE office or the US Embassy for advice on visa type.
HOW TO APPLY
Online Application Requirements
Applicants to 3-week Winter or Summer NICE must:
- Complete NICE Online Application Form, including payment (Visa or Mastercard accepted), and upload or mail a passport-sized photograph of student
Note: There are no health certification requirements for short-term NICE.
Application Requirements By Mail
Applicants to 3-week Winter or Summer NICE must submit Items #1-#3:
- Non-refundable Application Fee and Full Course Fee for the session (check or money order payable to "University of Hawai‘i")
- NICE Program Application Form filled out completely, including a passport-sized photograph of student
- Signature on Assumption of Risk and Release section of application. For students under 18 years old, this form must also be signed by the local adult sponsor.
Note: There are no health certification requirements for short-term NICE.
WHEN TO APPLY
For students applying to Winter or Summer NICE, we recommend applying
at least six (6) weeks before the beginning of the study term.
Applications are accepted on a first-come first-served basis until the program is full.

Items #2-#3 may be mailed or faxed to (808) 956-3421 (please also mail originals).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS UPON ARRIVAL
All new students must come to the NICE office before the beginning of the study term to complete final registration. Students will need to bring the following:
- Passport
The NICE office will make a photocopy of your passport and visa (if applicable). - Proof of Medical Insurance
Medical insurance should be purchased in the student's native country, if possible. Students who do not purchase medical insurance in their home countries may also purchase medical insurance on line with the following private providers:

Students without medical insurance will not be allowed to attend classes.
